"Spice Up Your Activism: How Queer Folks are Revolutionizing Change in Mexico City!"

Welcome to the heart of Guerrero neighborhood in Mexico City, where you’ll find the inspiring sanctuary known as “Manos Amigues” – a place dedicated to queer community support and solidarity. Let us walk you through what makes “Manos Amigues” such a special place on earth.

Origin Story

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, Brent Alberghini recognized the struggles faced by the LGBTQ+ community and decided to take action. Thus, “Manos Amigues” was born – a beacon of hope and support for those in need.

“Burritos No Bombas!”

Before “Manos Amigues” became a reality, Brent started the “Burritos No Bombas!” program from his own apartment, serving hundreds of individuals each week. From street children to trans individuals, this program provided essential support to those in underprivileged situations.

Our Beloved Community Kitchen

In July 2021, “Manos Amigues” opened its Community Kitchen, serving nearly 5,000 meals monthly to individuals experiencing homelessness, elderly citizens, people with disabilities, and refugees. It’s a safe space for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Queer Cultural Center

Beyond nourishing bodies, “Manos Amigues” nourishes souls with its fierce Queer Cultural Center. Featuring monthly exhibitions by queer artists and weekly performances, it’s a celebration of creativity and diversity.

More Than Just a Kitchen

But the support doesn’t stop there. “Manos Amigues” also provides clothing donations, free HIV/STI testing, and hosts an annual toy drive for children in need.
